What is Read United?

Read United is a year-round series of programs that aim to improve early language and childhood literacy for all children in our region.

Why is it important?

Reading proficiency and early literacy are essential building blocks for a child’s success. Strong reading skills help children become confident learners, succeed in school, and build the foundation they need for future opportunities. Through READ United, we’re investing in children during these critical early years by helping them reach important literacy milestones and develop the skills and confidence to thrive. By supporting early learners today, we’re helping create unlimited possibilities for our children, stronger families, and a stronger community for all.

Programs

Read United Day: United Way volunteers read to classrooms and give books and reading materials to every student in our region in kindergarten and first-grade.

Read United Buddies: Volunteers visit selected second-graders who need support to read on grade level twice weekly to read together.

Summer Reading: In conjunction with community partners, books are distributed to children alongside their meals.
